Nawaz Sharif Shock at Gas Bill

Pakistan’s prime minister has recently become the victim of his own push against those defaulting utility bills, after gas was cut off from his own residence.

It was found that Mr.Sharif had arrears of £28000 which resulted on the gas being cut off from his own residence.

A spokesman for Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited said the prime minister’s residence and a string of other government buildings were cut off over bills totaling almost £100,000.

The timing could not be more embarrassing as only five days earlier Mr Sharif ordered tough action to be taken against electricity and gas bill defaulters to help ease the energy crisis.

We were already acting against gas defaulters but the prime minister’s initiative further strengthened it,

he said.

He said repeat notices had been ignored and that the buildings would be reconnected when payments had been made.

This incident like many other will be once again seized and used as a means of illustrating the level of inefficiency within the government and the country.

However, government departments are frequently shown to be the worst offenders, creating “circular debt”.
