Brazil’s jewel player Neymar had the fear he was paralysed shortly after the knee in the back that ended his World Cup.
He was ruled out of the tournament last Friday when he was hit in the lower back through an aerial challenge with Colombia defender Juan Zuniga.
The scans showed that Neymar had fractured a vertebra after the collision. Neymar, himself believed the injury was much serious than this, when he lay flat on the pitch.
The Brazil coach was quoted to saying, “Marcelo ran up to Neymar directly after the challenge, and asked him how he was feeling.”
“I can’t feel my legs,” said Neymar.
Luckily, Neymar will not suffer any such long-term effects.
Jose Luiz Runco, Brazil’s team doctor, said, “He does not have any neurological injury that would compromise his life as an athlete or a human being.”
“He will be out for 40-45 days, and then he will be able to pass, to run,” he added.
Neymar thanked his teammates for all their support at the team’s training ground in Teresopolis.
He was then flown to his home city of Guaruja, where his therapy began.
