Baby Elephant Rescued from School

A two-month-old baby elephant laid injured and traumatised on a classroom floor in Laikipia, Kenya.

Villagers targeted the calf after a member of its herd killed a local woman.

The elephant that was responsible was shot by Kenya Wildlife Service, which triggered a stampede. Due to this, the baby was left stranded.

Spears and stones attacked the calf until it found its way into a school ground.

Thankfully, a warden from Naibunga Conservancy stepped into calm the situation and quickly got in touch with David Sheldrick Wild Life Trust to rescue the injured baby.

The rescue team shipped from their base in Nairobi and soon arrived with tensions still running high.

The worried calf was flown back to the David Sheldrick Wild Life Trust Nursery in Nairobi.

There, keepers treated her with antiseptic green clay and she was named Mbegu, which is the Swahili name for seed.
