Harriette Thompson competed in the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego marathon on Sunday and broke the US record for the fastest run in the 90-94 age groups with a time of seven hours, seven minutes and 42 seconds.
The grandmother who is 91-years-old survived skin cancer and became the oldest woman to complete the race.
The North Carolina resident is currently battling cancer and runs to raise money for leukemia research.
She ran her first marathon at the age of 76.
She broke the US record for the fastest run in the over 90 age group and this is what she said:
‘I feel wonderful,’
‘I feel relieved. But I’m interested in getting into a cold shower and falling into bed for a while,” she added
