Saudi Arabia ranked second highest of the Middle Eastern countries susceptible to cyber and financial attacks in 2013, according to Russian-based cyber financial attacked specialist firm, Kaspersky Lab.
The United Arab Emirates took first place with a 38% rate of exposure to cyber attacks as Saudi Arabia had 29% rate. Egypt followed suit with a 10% exposure rate, Qatar at a little over 9.5%, Kuwait at just above 6%. According to the report Oman ranked in sixth place.
Lesser than one percent of the financial attacks in the region in 2013 were directed at obtaining usernames, passwords and credit card details. According to the attacks were targeted at e-mails pertaining to be sent by official government bodies, such as banks, in order to get the required details.
According to the report a 32% rate of cyber attacks was registered on social media, 30% on e-mail, 12% on banks, 8% on banks, 7% on e-commerce websites and 3% on games.
Globally the US ranked in first place in the number of cyber attacks, with a rate of 30% and Russia came second with 11%. Germany came in at third place with 9.3% , followed by Japan at 6.2%, Britain .,2%, India and France tied at 4%, Switzerland had a 2.6% rate and Italy and Brazil came in at just under 2% according to the report.
