The Rufus cuff, promoting it-self as a “wrist communicator” features a 3 inch screen and runs on Android. It has access to the complete Google Play store: with a built in mic, speaker and camera, a full Web browser; accelerometer and gyroscope; touchscreen keyboard; and it is attachable to switchable silicone bands coming in five colours. It also has the bonus feature of being able to control both Android and iOS devices with Bluetooth 4.0 connection.
The question is raised as to; Why not just attach smartphones to a wrist holder? Why buy a separate device? The Answer is simple: Size. The current smartphones in the market are too large with the latest iPhone model, at just four inches, being the only exception. The goal of the Rufus Cuff is to relegate mobile phones, in essence tuning them into a hub device that pushes information to a screen, without requiring to pull out a device such as a phablet. The eventual aim of the project is to replace the smartphone, keys and wallet with one product.
The project is currently raising funds on Indiegogo, and has raised $144,000 of its $200000 target. The cuff is set to be priced at $249 and be ready for sale by September 2014.
