A farmer lost his iPhone, which has been returned to him after having survived a 9 months and 7,000-mile journey.
Oklahoma farmer Kevin Whitney dropped his phone in pounds of grain and said the following at the time:
“Drop an iPhone, and you run the risk of cracking its beautiful glass screen. But bury it in 280,000 pounds of grain, and it might just survive a trip around the world.”
The time the incident happened, Kevin said, “I had it in my pocket, bent over to work on a hopper bottom door, and it fell out of my pocket into the grain pit.”
The phone was gone, until nine months later, when Kevin received a long-distance call from Kashima Japan, which said,
“Is this Kevin Whitney? Did you lose a cell phone?”
A factory worker in Japan found the phone that belonged to Kevin in a grain shipment out of Convent Louisiana.
The phone was not locked, which is how the worker found the owner and contacted Kevin.
The phone suffered no damage and was very soon back in Kevin’s hands.
The phone was inside a speck cellphone case, which may have helped the device cope with such a long trip.
